FAQs

  • Where are you guys actually located?

Glacier View Aviation is located at Glacier Park International Airport (KGPI) in Kalispell, MT. However, you don’t just show up like you’re gonna catch the next Delta flight at the passenger terminal. Give us a call or send a text, and we’ll make a plan to meet up.

  • What's the difference between the two airplanes?

One has the wings on top, the other has them on the bottom. But seriously, both airplanes handle similarly and are both about as simple to learn in as it gets. There are some slight procedural differences and flight considerations, but you can’t go wrong with either.

  • How many hours should I expect to spend training for my private pilot’s license?

The FAA requires no less than 40 hours of flight time in order to be eligible for your private license. However, just like TikTok algorithms, no two pilots are the same. Some take 40 hours, some take more. The more dedicated to learning and flying you are, the more likely you are to test closer to 40 hours.

  • How do we get Will to shut up? For real?

Snacks. The only way is to fill his pie hole with food. Trust us, we’re sick of it too.

  • How do we pay you?

Good question. We accept check or Venmo. The airplanes and flight instruction are billed separately. We’ll go over all of this when you contact us.

  • How much does it cost to get a private pilot's license?

Tree fiddy. Wait, that’s actually what some FBO’s charge just to use the rest room. Costs will vary, it all depends on you, Champ. The more you study, the more frequently you practice, generally the fewer hours it will take you to get to check ride. Less hours = less money. Ballpark total expense (including aircraft rental, instruction, exams, etc.) runs $10-12K.

  • What can I expect on my Discovery Flight?

Discovery Flights are all about getting you accustomed to flying in light general aviation airplanes. We’ll start with a chat on the ground about the basics and what you can expect in the air, as well as during flight training. Then we’ll pop in the plane and go for a short flight where you’ll be at the controls.

  • Where are my car keys?

Your dad told us you left them on the dresser.

  • I'm from Canada, can I fly?

Bless your sweet maple syrup heart. Yes, you can learn to fly too, but only after you register with the TSA’s Alien Flight Training Program. Just Google that word salad and follow the instructions. However, we can give you Discovery Flights all day long.

  • Wait, is Tom really a kid?

Despite all outward appearances, he is indeed a fully grown human man. His wife might disagree.

  • I read about this Part 61 versus Part 141 stuff, what's that all about?

Let’s start with the stuff that doesn’t really matter: Part 141 flight schools, like community colleges and universities, are schools that have FAA-approved curriculum, strict training timelines, and cost a bazillion dollars.

Glacier View Aviation is a Part 61 school. With Part 61, as a student, things are at your pace. You learn when you want, you fly when you want. The quality of education is the same, you just can’t take out student loans to pay for it.

  • My mom wants to know if you're insured.

You can tell Debbie we’re fully insured, both for the instruction and the planes. You gotta protect ya self.
